Changing the World

Apr 2

It’s all I could think about. I wouldn’t be satisfied with anything less.  My heart raced as I drew closer to my destination in anticipation of what would follow. I sang along to the radio, but my eyes were continually estimating the distance to the end of my journey. I swallowed as I saw it in the distance.  Slowly the orange and black sign came into focus, and I knew I was home free. I read the familiar words and smiled at the good tidings. Large Pepperoni Pizza $5.

I leaped out of the van and scooted into the store.  “I’ll take two large pepperoni pizzas,” I said with pride, ten dollars now sweaty in my hand. In no time at all, I was pulling into my driveway with the treasure in tow. The smell had me dizzy with hunger.

That first bite was heavenly. I don’t know how it happened, but somehow on the way to pizza euphoria, I became disenchanted with my triangular treat. It was just – blah. I noticed the grease and the excess of cheese.  I kept eating thinking I was supposed to enjoy it.  But every bite left me feeling yuckier. What was wrong with me? Wasn’t this what I wanted?

I was eating the pizza because I believed it to be good. I ate it all the time. But I wasn’t satisfied, and the more I ate, the worse I felt. When I realized I didn’t have to consume it any more, God put a new desire in my heart.  A desire for more of Him.

Matthew West has a song out now called The Motions. It reflects my heart exactly.

I don’t want to go through the motions.

I don’t wanna go one more day

without Your all consuming passion inside of me

I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking,

“What if I had given everything,

instead of going through the motions?”

Friends, this is the cry of my heart. I want to live my life taking risks for God.  I want to give Him my everything. I don’t want to come to the end of my life and wonder, what if…

How about you? Are you just eating pizza because it’s what you’ve always done? Put down that slice and throw away the box. Cry out to Jesus.  Tell Him you want to live a life to change – a life to change the world.  We can change the world, you and I.  It starts with giving Him everything. Will you join me?

Take some time to watch this video of Matthew West’s song The Motions. You’ll be glad you did. It’s incredible.

Yes, mam! That is the cry of my heart. I don’t want to go through the motions. I don’t want to let fear hold me back.

I’m with you, girl! I am with you!
🙂 And I will never look at pepperoni pizza the same way again. 🙂 (I love how God speaks to you!)

“Motions” has been my favorite song since hearing it the first time. I was just in the car with the kids this week when we heard the song (they know it’s my favorite) and I took the opportunity to explain to them what the song means. I challenged them that as they grow up and move away from us that they need to be responsible for their own spiritual growth. Right now Le and I have devotions and prayers with them every night but that isn’t what will keep them from going through the motions. Hopefully they will see through the lives that we live in front of them just how God wants us to be “all consumed” by Him.
