And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17 NIV
He stood in the river preaching and baptizing, but he never expected his Lord to walk up that day. Can you imagine the racing of John’s heart as Jesus stepped into the water and approached his cousin? “No, no,” John tried to dissuade Christ probably somewhat confused at Jesus’ request. “It is YOU who should be baptizing ME, but you want me to baptize YOU?”
“Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness,” Jesus told him. (Matt. 3:15 NIV)
And that is how it happened – the most famous baptism in history. When Christ stood up out of the river, water dripping down his face and hair, the heavens opened and God came down like a dove to rest on Him. Then all standing around the Jordan heard Him speak. “This is my son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
I know how God felt. My son followed in the footsteps of God’s Son yesterday and was baptized. So to each of you, I say, “This is my son whom I love, with him I am well pleased.”
Thats awesome……congrats to you and your son!
