Well, friends, it’s that time again!  I know you’ve been waiting all week to see what song I would pick for Then Sings My Soul Saturday.  It’s a secret that has been kept under lock and key. (Or maybe I just picked it ten minutes ago.)  My song this week is…

I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

This song was tickled on the ivories as I walked down the aisle to give my heart to Jesus in 1984 – no, I’m not talking about George Orwell here.  It was June of 1984 in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and I was ten.  As you can imagine, this song holds a special place in my heart.  I picked a noteworthy You Tube video to go with my song.  It’s sung by Bill Gaither and his Homecoming Friends.  And by golly, here is the best part – I think the video of this song just might have been recorded the same year I walked that aisle, perhaps even the same night.  


Why, you ask?  How could I know such a thing?  Watch and see for yourself.  Friends, only the 80’s could provide such hair-do goodness as you will see in this video.  The puffy bangs and the perms.  I can just smell the White Rain.  




But, then again maybe this was the late 80’s.  Based on the mullets and the men’s attire, perhaps 1989 would be a better guess.  What do you think?  Want to join me for a little 80’s flash back?

    Carol-
    I STILL HAVE my Munchichi!! I can remember walking through Kroger (grocery store) with my grandma and begging to have it when I was 4-years-old. She has a banana in her hand that can stick in her mouth OR ear. Very versitile.
    Two years ago, I was walking with my little girl in the mall and what do I see??? A cute little Munchichi staring at me. In Clair’s (that jewelry store in every mall). So, now our house has 2! And that is like totally cool.
    “I have decided to follow Jesus” – absolutly one of my favorite old hymns. I would always love it when the songleader would start making up verses, too.

    HA!!!!!!! Those were some SCARY times, my Friend! My hair was SO BIG I didn’t even need sunscreen back then.. no need! The shadow of my boofy hair kept me covered! Oh, and I’m quite sure my “do” was HIGHLY FLAMMABLE! WOW… What a flashback. =-)

    OH. MY. WORD. THE 80s!!!! AAAAHHHH!! Please no!!! I can’t tell you how many swatches I had- oh, so many. Too funny.

    I have Decided to Follow Jesus is one of my favs too. I remember singing it in church during the invitation. I love the new praise and worship music we sing to day, but sometimes I just wish we would bring out the hymnals and have a good ole’ gospel sangin’. Know what I mean!?!
