How Many Days

Mar 1

After saying “yes” to God and jumping with both feet into His goodness, I realized how much I had been missing out on.  It left me questioning “how many days”?  I wrote this song.  Keep in mind I am not usually a song writer.  I leave that for my friend Stephanie at Notes From the Soul.  (She is awesome.)  Nevertheless, here is my heart on a billboard for you to read.  Honk if  you’ve ever felt the same.

How Many Days

By Carol Hatcher

Verse 1

Lord, you’ve opened my eyes to see

Just how awesome you can be.

But I just can’t help but think

Of all the wasted time I’ve spent

Searching for the things that would not fill me

Just a life of cheap thrills for me.

Oh Lord, how many days

How many days did I waste?

I should have been searching for your face.

You are more than I ever dreamed of

Basking in your grace just leaves me

Wondering…

Lord, how many days?

Verse 2

Now, I’m in my chair just sittin’ around

With all the comforts to be found.

Not moving out of my own zone,

‘Cause I can’t stand to be alone.

You see, I’m waiting for a blessing,

You’re not there – you must be testing.

Oh Lord, how many days?

How many days did I wait?

It was too easy in my place.

I should have stepped out on my faith.

But I’m still basking in your grace and it leaves me

Wondering…

Lord, how many days?

Verse 3

I got caught up in my self.

My problems, my fears, my health

I didn’t see you at the door.

I didn’t know you wanted more.

More than Sunday morning frills,

More than quickly spoken spills.

Oh Lord, how many days?

How many days were just for me?

My tears, my joy, my peace.

I couldn’t see beyond my needs.

I didn’t plant your word, your seed.

Now I’m basking in your grace and it leaves me

Wondering…

Lord, how many days?

Verse 4

When finally I knew,

What, as your child, I was called to do

My eyes shielded from your glory

Your songs at night they did restore me.

And I gave my all to you.

Your grace, you pulled me through.

Oh Lord, how many days?

How many days did I seek?

I’ve been searching for your face.

You are more than I ever dreamed of and

Basking in your grace just leaves me

Wondering…

Lord, how many days?

Verse 5

Lord, how many days more

Until I’m standing at your door?

I wait and watch for signs of you

But still I know what I’m to do.

I stand on promises you’ve made

Bringing others to know your face.

Lord, how many days!

How many days we will dance and sing!

We will worship the risen King.

When we stand together at last,

In His glory, we all will bask.

So Lord, I’m just

Wondering…

How many days?
